     As I am an honorary geek, I thought it best to put it out here on my blogger account.  No, I am not a Trekkie (spelling) or any other dopey word.  But I wonder, what is it about this series that draws everyone in?  I remember watching it on the big screen when they re-released it in the 90's.  My mom took me and a friend to go watch it and I thought "A New Hope" was the best movie ever.

    I only like the 70's four through six, I've watched all of them.  My brother was obsessed with them, and, spent most of his time talking like Jar Jar Binx.  Don't know if I spelled that right either.  These movies are an American Institution.  The movies just wont die though.  Seriously, how many movie's can you name that still draw people in after thirty plus years?  Not many.  But here we are and here they are.  Being re-released on Blue-Ray, being watched for the first time by a kid that just wants to be a Jedi and no matter how old you are anything like an old wrapping paper tube becomes a light saber. 

    Characters like Hans and Chewey still are they dynamic duo of the century.  Who doesn't want a seven foot tall big hairy looking dog to be your side kick?  Do any of you have a movie or television series that you love?  Do you still here catch phrases like, "It's a trap!", "Luke I'm Your Father" or "That's No Moon It's A Space Station" or whatever you show's catch phrases mean.

Date With Danny

Date With Danny

      Right now because Dan is still in training he has weekends off, he also gets off relatively early because he gets up at the crack of dawn.  So when he got home today I was ready for an adventure, also, because I've been trying to be ultra good on eating healthy I wanted a cheeseburger.  Lol! Isn't that always the way?  You've done good all week so you crave the worst thing possible for yourself!  I did get the baby burger, Danny and I shared the fries- but I had to get a regular Pepsi!  My very own Weber's Special... this is my place and it was jumping today.  I love to see that, an independent eatery getting a piece of the metaphorical pie.  I like the big chains as much as the next guy, but, when the little guy does it better there is something almost whimsical about that.

    Anyways, this isn't about food (regretfully) this is about my perfect afternoon with Dan.  For those of you that aren't familiar with Tulsa their is a shopping center, really an outside mall if you will, that is in the center of Tulsa.  It's called Utica Square.  It looks like it's set in a park and you just want to wander around soaking up the feel good vibes it sends out.  I of course went strait for Starbucks because I am sucker for an iced latte.  

     If your planning on visiting the Tulsa area I recommend coming to Utica Square even if you don't like shopping there is pretty landscaping and wood carvings that are nice to look at.  They have great eateries too.  Yes, they have things like Olive Garden and PF Changs for you people that don't like to try new things! (Just Kidding) But they also have independently owned restaurants too!  The outside eating areas are so nice because they're covered with ivy growing over the awning and they have ceiling fans to circulate the air.  Trust me Tulsa, OK gets the ass end of weather stick.  We can go from being buried under three feet of snow to a summer that reaches 112.  Seriously people, expect anything in this area.  I've told Dan when I get my first check I am going to one of these restaurants because they look like so much fun to go eat at.

    For you shoppers out there, they have a grab bag of stores.  The Gap, Chicos, Mrs. Jacksons, Saks Fifth Avenue, Potter Barn and much more!  I don't really shop that much but I like to window shop.  I get so many ideas from walking around places like these.  It was a great afternoon and hopefully we can do something else fun tomorrow!

It's Friday!!!

First Week on the Job!

     With my first week of work out of the way, I thought I would just do a re-cap of my week.  You have no idea how... grateful I am to have this job.  I still have lot's to learn but I am trying really hard to do my best. 

     My first day, I was nervous but didn't let it get to me.  Second day I went to orientation and learned more about the company and of course went threw more training, by the third and the fourth I am starting to get the hang of things.  I am now taking calls with someone listening on the extension and coaching me on what to say and what to do with the computer screens.  It's really the most laid back customer service job I've ever had, unless you count the six months I worked at Dillard's.  I would probably still be at Dillard's if they would ever give their customer service people raises.  Seriously you could work there for ten years and they wouldn't give you a raise.  How stupid is that?  I do miss that discount though!  

    Now that I have Friday and Saturday off I am looking around my house to all the stuff that has piled up.  You know when I wasn't working my house was spic-and-span.  Didn't matter if I didn't do the dishes after diner I would have all day the next day to take care of that... now I come home cook and don't want to do those dishes because I've worked all day.  I swear if we get our bills back in order, I will be hiring a housekeeper.  I hate cleaning!  Sometimes when I'm in the mood I do actually like it but when you have a full time job, cleaning seems to be like another full time job you don't get paid for.

I kinda just put this in because i think I may bake a cake later tonight... I good marble cake with thick chocolate frosting. Yum!!

    I guess I should get off my computer and actually tackle the items on my to-do list I've been putting off this week.

Just Another Day at the Office

Just Another Day at the Office

      So I've been at my job now for two days, I like it a lot.  The world of customer service is something everyone should experience once.  Really, some people do need to work these jobs just so they would know that screaming at someone does not make your order come in faster, cursing someone does not make you t.v. service come back and it certainly does not make anyone want to help you in a timely matter.

      As of yet I haven't heard anything too crazy, I got worse when I worked for a collections company but since I've worked various call center jobs I know the people taking the call aren't the problem.  It's the companies policy.  I know it's frustrating when the rep spouts off policy jargon and gives you an I don't care attitude.  Trust me it's not personal, you're probably like that person 50th phone call and they have been beat to death by stupid people that can't use common sense to figure their own problems out.

      But you have no idea how happy I am to be working a real job again.  If you've ever been without a job for any period of time then you can understand how frustrating it can be to watch your spouse go and work their ass off and all you can do is clean and cook.  If we were in the position for me to stay at home and cook and clean I would probably take it, just because I love my house being clean... like super clean!  It's almost impossible for me to keep up with it when I work full time.  But alas, this isn't the fifties and everyone has to work. 

    I am really hoping this job turns into somewhat off a career.  That I can actually stay here and work someway to a manager position.  I promise to keep everyone posted through out the good days and the bad days!  Gonna relax and watch some America's Got Talent and read a book.

It's Started With A Book

It Started With A Book

     I don't really know why but I blame J.K. Rowling, why can I not stop reading books of magic and mystical creatures that are meant for a younger audience?  Harry Potter is an obsession and I think I am going to get some kind of quote in honor of a book and movie taking up more than a decade of my life.  Seriously people we are the Potter Generation... well I am on the outer cusp of the Potter Generation, but, people like my little brother that were like ten when the first movie came out and have literally grown up reading and watching these movies- they, they are the Potter Generation.  

    Then came Twilight, the sparkly vampires.  I've read them and watched each movie as well.  They don't hold a candle to the Potter series.  The plots good- the writing atrocious.  Plus it gave us Kristen Stewart and all her lower lip biting glory, for that I will always blame you Stephenie Meyer for unleashing this emotionless sour puss on main stream pop culture.  Yeah I said it and so did a million other tabloids.

    Seriously lets call a girl that blows off college and wants to get married at the age of sixteen a roll model.  Being that she gets pregnant at the age of eighteen I think she should be the next character on Teen Mom.  I like my vampires sucking the blood of humans not being "vegetarians" and knocked up teenage girls.  While I'm on the subject how does the physics of this work?  I mean the guy is dead, one, would think he would lack the blood flow to a specific area to make this possible.

     Now there are books like Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter and Jane and the Damned.  Classics with a twist, I just read the Jane and the Damned book.  Was with it all the way until the end.  Ugh the end just pissed me off to no end, I literally (forgive me public library) threw it on the ground and walked off. Don't you just hate books like that?  You get to the end of the book and everything is going great, you've been enjoying the hours spent reading this authors hard work and you're like, yes, well done I've found a new author I may just go out and find more of their work then- BAM!  Sorry, do not pass go do not collect 200 dollars.  This book just crashed and burned.

    I guess I am just going to wait and see what else J.K. Rowling rolls out, a little part of me is hoping that this grown up book has something to do with Potter.  Perhaps a more in depth prequel?

   

      Oh, I realize I could add The Hungers Games to this little rant, but, I found them to be well written and gave us something else to read about besides spirits of the under world.  So there ya go.  But for me it will always be Harry Potter- Always...

     A couple of weeks ago I wrote an entry about houses and how I hope to build my own on day, so I thought I would post another entry about recent pictures that I've found on this subject.  Yes, I will say it up front most of my idea come from movies... like if I struck it rich one day with the lotto I would find Nancy Meyers and have her make a house for me.  Seriously, have you seen her set designs they are beautiful!!!

Any house I have I want a screened in porch or sunroom... couldn't you image playing Scrabble or Gin Rummy on a rainy day?

     One thing that is important to me is that I have little touches that make the house mine.  I love vintage inspirations, so I think having a panel or two of stained glass windows somewhere is a must.  I think I would put it in the kitchen or an office or even a bathroom.  Big windows are also a must, once upon a time I cleaned houses for a living and the best house I ever cleaned was a 70 year old house that had original bathroom octagon tiles and huge huge windows!  I was cleaning it in late spring, (you know the time when it rains every two or three days?) anyways everything was so green this house and the greenery reminded me of Twilight.  Don't judge me, the first one was the best one.  So yeah, my home should I get my way will have lots of natural lights and vintage touches!

     I am firm believer of the whole concept of the kitchen being the heart of a home.  I love cooking and baking, not to mention drinking so the kitchen is my sanctuary.  I love having friends over and cooking for them.  Don't know why, maybe it's because all my friends are having kids and they can cook for their families and I don't so I just cook meals for my friends instead?  Not sure but I love having people over and sharing a meal with them.  So here's some pictures of what I would call heaven...

     The other important part to a house is the bathrooms.  Mainly the master bath, I don't so much care about the other ones.  Now we see I have no children yet, right?  I'm completely selfish... just kidding!  Even in my bathrooms I want big windows and lots of natural light, guess I better live out in the middle of no where so random people don't see me naked!  LOL!!  Although when we went to New York there where huge windows in there and I really could care less if someone was watching me while I showered!

     Now that I've been introduced to Pinterest I've found so many awesome pictures that I would add to my own house.  So I thought I would share with you... enjoy and tell me what'cha think!

Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

      So I've finally gotten a job! Yay me!! It's for a furniture store and I will not be in sales, which, makes me happy.  I will be in the office and customer service department and I can't wait!  I get benefits and a discount on furniture, just so happens I kind of need to replace my living room couches.  The one's we got when we first moved to Tulsa were on the cheaper side and have filled their purpose. 

     Anyways, I start on Monday and how am I going to spend the next four days of off time?  Laying around and working on my summer reading list, catching up on sitcoms or working on my tan?  Nope, I am going to clean this house from top to bottom and organize everything I can.  Yes, I know fifties housewife much... Shut up!  I like things clean and right now after us being gone and me letting things pile up it needs a good scrubbing.  I swear when we move and our bills are back in order I am calling a house cleaner because I am soo sick of cleaning, I really hate it!

Pardon the French, but, this sort of sums up my attitude today!

     After looking up pictures for this entry, I started thinking about how different things were in the fifties to today.  Women were just expected to do all the housework and pretend like it was fun.  How did they do it?  I would be the biggest bitch all the time, how dare you tell me I can't work and because you're a man you're better than me!!!  Yes, the gloves would be off and the claws would be out!  

Yeah, I would just like to see someone try this on me.  The results would not be pretty!

This didn't have anything to do with cleaning, but, look their are olives, celery and something else floating in this Jell-o Mold.  That's just nasty!

I saw this ad in a movie once.  I wonder if the people that made it knew that in 2012 we would still be looking at it?

     Just look at some of these ads, they are beyond ridiculous.  Then I started looking at the ads today, the majority of cleaning ads feature a woman cleaning up after kids and a clumsy husband.  So have things really changed?  Do men still want us in our kitchens playing the part of a short order cook?

Sometimes I wish I could be like Samantha, wiggle my nose and my house is clean!

Well I have to actually go check some things off of my to do list!
