Welcome to my world, this blog is nothing more than the randomness that dominates my life. Enjoy.

Let's Go To The Movies

My Big List of Awesome Movies!

Alright so this isn't really a big list, but it is a few of some of my favorite movies. They are in no particular order as I view them as a sacred form of art and entertainment. So here it goes hope one day when you are roaming around the Netflex files this may guide you to something spectacular...

1. Dan In Real Life:  Steve Carell stars as Dan, who is raising his three adolescent daughters by himself after his wife passed away. He is an advise columnist, who helps people with their own relationships even though he hasn't been able to find anyone worth while since his wife passed. But more importantly, it's a heartwarming story about a family coming together. I love movies that have a lived in feel to their sets and this one has it in spades. I just want to walk around in this make believe Hollywood set of a home.

2. Arthur (the re-make):  Russell Brand and Helen Mirren make such a great comedic team in this movie. I loved it, being that the originally was a bit before my time I think the re-make is the bees knees. Brand plays an eccentric millionaire spent on having a good time and not taking life to seriously. It's such a great movie that makes you laugh and yes cry a little too!

3. Under the Tuscan Sun: The lovely Diane Lane (wish I could have her skin it's so pretty it makes me sick) is a divorcee rebuilding her life after her husband leaves her. She takes a leap of faith and buys a home in Cortona, Italy. Learning to speak a new language and learning to look for love again. Total chick flick, but sometimes chicks just need to flick.

4. Twilight: We all know the ridiculous story, but, I love this movie because it again has the indie feel that I love and the soundtrack is amazing!

5. Little Miss Sunshine: Another Steve Carell movie this is probably the least Hollywood family movie ever. It's just real.

6. Garden State: Zach Braff wrote and directed this film. Couldn't be more brillant, Braff and Natalie Portman play a quirky couple that meet and fall for each other in a short time. Braff also must overcome family issues with his stay in his home town in New Jersey. Again this is one of those indie feel good films that I am a sap for.

7. It's Complicated: Meryl Streep, Steve Marin and Alec Baldwin. Need I say more? Oh, I do okay... Meryl and Alec play a divorced couple that have a fling while Meryl and Steve start to build a relationship. As I said earlier movies with really good sets draw me in, I can actually see the actors living in the homes because they look like they belong there. Nancy Meyers films are so good at this, almost all of her films have a house that I could die for.

8. Driving Miss Daisy: Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy make are fabulous together. It's a classic so I won't go into much detail but if for some reason you've been under a rock and don't know much about this film... go rent it. Now.

9. Tommy Boy: Chris Farley and David Spade I know every line by heart and trust me around my house you more often than not you will hear a Tommy Boy quote.

10. The Help: Based on the novel which is an amazing book. With such real characters you can't help but love to hate them. Set in the 1960's (you know it stole this vintage girls heart with the costumes) it deals with the stuff that America would like to sweep under the rug, civil rights and racism in the South. Wonderful story of hope, love and basic human rights.

P.S. anything that has a book series to it... I am so there. Just watched The Hunger Games in theaters, I play on buying it when it comes out to DVD and of course I have all the Harry Potters! Don't judge.

Another Five Things That Drive Me Crazy!

My Annoyance List Is Back...

1. Using Dan's computer, it's a Sony Vaio and all in all it's a wonderful computer except for one little thing, the mouse sucks! You can't move around without it going crazy taking you back pages and just annoying the hell out of you.

2. People that stand an inch away from you in a line. Really, do you people think that breathing down my neck and inching closer and closer is going to make the cashier at the supermarket check out faster? I can't help their is a soccer mom that is competing for extreme couponing in front of me, so back up!

3. People that drive around with their blinker on. It just drives me crazy I keep wondering if their about to turn or what.

4. When you realize that you've just done something stupid and their isn't anything you can do about it. For instance I was loading the dishwasher and I dropped a steak knife the moment that it slipped out of my fingers I knew that this wasn't going to be making me very happy. I tried to jump out of the way but I still have an interesting looking cut on my foot!

5. My addictive personality that makes me get sucked into books meant for young-adults. Yes, I am talking about The Hunger Games I just finished the second book and can't wait to go pick up the third. Even though I know I am supposed to be conserving my money but it's all I can do not to go and buy that book!

Broadway Boutique and Fashion

Broadway Boutique-ing and La Mode

Like us on Facebook for news of upcoming sales and shipments!

I drove to my hometown of Broken Bow, OK to help my mom with her boutique. This may be the funnest job ever. Everyone is so happy to come in and browse and I love it, all day you just walk around with a smile feeling happiness bubbling around you! She gave me several outfits to model around the store as I helped her! I had a very French theme going on, complete with red nails, black retro gel liner, a striped shirt that says La Mode and a full on feathered hair clip. Oooohh-la-la!!

And let me tell you what, we were unbelievably busy! Granted Saturdays are somewhat of a hit-or-miss but I sincerely enjoyed myself playing boutique! We had everything from a pair of seven year old girls that entertained the whole store while their mom and grandmother shopped to a motor biking couple that told jokes to the twin girls and made the entire store laugh! At first when they walked in I thought oh this store isn’t going to be their bag, I mean they were dressed from riding their motor bike on the road. Just goes to show that you should never judge a book by its cover. Food for thought.

If you ever are in the area of Broken Bow, OK you should stop by Broadway Boutique. It’s opened Monday-Saturday and they usually have great deals and always have unique pieces to pick up for your wardrobe. I’ve found a new designer that I am so in love with, Downeast Basics. Love. Love. Love. Love. their clothes. They are soft and styled in a vintage-itsy manner that I adore!

Murphy's Law

Murphy's Law

I don't know who this Murphy bloke is or why he's such a dick, but damn in another life I really must of pissed this guy off. Anything that can go wrong with me does. I'm driving and need to pass a guy, well, don't count on getting a clear passing zone for a while. The most important thing that all day I kept reminding myself not to forget at my moms house was my power-cord to my laptop- what did I forget? My power-cord.
So if you've been wonder why I haven't been posting more, my avid Vintage Life Reader's, it's because I am an idiot and I forgot the most important part of my computer. I'd pre written so many good entries too!!
My mom says she's going to mail it to me, so hopefully I will have something good soon!

Fish Fry and a Pineapple Cake

Pineapple Cakes and a Fish Fry!

Today is Sunday in Broken Bow, which means there isn’t a lot to do. The boutique is closed along with many other locally owned and operated businesses. Really it’s kind of nice in a small town quaint way… so long as you are in the mood to hang around the house with you family and I was!

We started out with a home-made breakfast sandwich and then went to work pulling last year’s Canna’s out of the ground. We then went to pulling weeds in the front yards flower gardens. I S.O.S.ed all the tree sap off of the railing around the porch making them sparkly white- we even made a trip to Wal-Mart for tomatoes and peppers to plant. (Each year we make fabulous home-made salsa and it may possibly the best salsa ever! We can it so it can be enjoyed all year round.)

After taking a snack break we went to un-covering the swimming pool… yuck. It wasn’t as bad as I expected but someone forgot to take the vacuum out and it slippery with muck and slime. I also had to give my dog a bath because he thought ant killer looked like something that needed to be investigated! Don’t worry he’s okay!

We, as this title implies, had a fish fry tonight and my grandparents came over to enjoy some freshly caught bass. It was delicious, I had been wanting some really good home-cooked southern foods. No matter water you just can't get that home cooked taste from a restaurant. You just cant. Hushpuppies, baked beans, French fries and, of course, the fish. Wash that down with some sweet tea and I was a happy camper. Everyone ate my pineapple cake that I made last night and agreed it was sansationally delicious!!

Now we are going to finish up our project and play some Gin Rummy. I really wish that Daniel had got to come with me it’s not the same without Danny making me laugh; I can’t wait to see him tomorrow. It’s time like this that I realize how much having my whittles around means to me!

Don’t worry I will make a blog about our Pineapple Cake adventure later. Man I wish I had remembered my camera!

Experiences in my hometown

“‘Round My Hometown”

Round my hometown
Memories are fresh
Round my hometown
Ooh the people I’ve met
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of my world
Are the wonders of this world
Are the wonders of my world

These lyrics are from Adele’s song Round My Hometown.  The inspiration today is the fact that I am back in my hometown for a few days. It’s like an alien planet. Don’t get me wrong I love it here, however, I run from these city limits any time I return to Broken Bow, OK.  I unfortunately forgot my camera so I will have to see if I can upload pictures from my Moms camera.

I have a lot planned for this weekend, I am going to be working in Mom’s Boutique, and I really wanted to take some pictures of that because we all worked in making the building! Then my sister Sarah and I are going to make some pineapple cupcakes and you know I wanted to take some photos of that!

Ladies and Gentleman, I will keep you posted on what I will be doing here. Trust me I’m like a creature from a different planet here, but maybe it will go smoothly!!

Nomadic Lifestyles

Traveling the World

I want to travel, a lot. I love traveling and sadly the only foreign country I have visited is Canada… not very foreign, eh? But this is a passion of mine, last year I went to New York and has captivated by the many cultures clashing together at once. I thought I knew about cultures rolling into one, I mean I lived in South Florida for a few years and there is so many people and flavors there but it pales in comparison to New York.
Dan, me, my brother in the shades, and sister sarah making the funny face on a double decker bus in NYC

My next goal is to start traveling more, I know you sort of money for airfare and whatnot so that may be a problem. I think the first place I would go would be Italy, especially Cortona. It seems so beautiful there and I would love to see those sights for myself. I’d also like to see Ireland and the U.K. not to mention Spain, Austria, Germany, and the list goes on.

I’d love to go to tropical places like, Bali, Tahiti, Cuba, Vietnam and anywhere else you can think of. How does one accomplish this? I mean really? I really want to know, maybe, some magazine could pay me and I could write while I take a look around the planet? Give me some tips because this is a passion and a dream that I would like to make come true for me and Dan!
This picture is amazing to me, it looks like that boat is floating in the air!

Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo

“Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo”

The title really doesn’t have anything to do with today’s entry.  If you’re smart enough to figure out what I am talking about (without Googling it!) I award you 50 imaginary gold stars which can be redeemed at any time!  Man work was really rough today, I had to be there at six in the morning and if any of you know me personally, you know that sleep is vital to my mood and not getting enough turns me into Bruce Banner… when he’s angry.  Sunday’s are weird at work you get there at six and leave at ten then go back at three and leave at six. Sound like fun? Not so much I like the break but getting motivated to go back isn’t easy.

The purpose of today’s entry you may be asking yourself is: at work there is a dog named Ralphie and all day all I want to do is sing Ralphie Wiggum by The Bloodhound Gang. So this got me thinking about how much The Simpsons has influenced pop culture.  It debuted in December 1989… which means I am only three years older than this show.  Think about it, a TV show that is 23 years old is insane! Especially with the attention span of American’s today.

We nerds that love and idolize this show make quotes from it in our everyday lives, we laugh when people that claim to hate the show laugh at our clever one liners… but I digress.  There were stamps made, yes actual postage stamps with the characters from The Simpsons, when The Simpsons movie debuted Seven-Eleven turned Slurpie’s into Squishies, The Bloodhound Gang has of course made the song Ralphie Wiggum. I could go on but hopefully you’re seeing my point.

Now we have to live with the fact that our beloved animated sitcom is coming to a close, two more seasons and Fox is apparently throwing in the towel.  I for one will miss looking forward to Sunday because Sunday’s are Simpson days. It’s seems like the en of an era… and no amount of Family Guy’s or Futurama’s or any other animated shows can fill those Krusty the Clown sized shoes.  I posted the Bloodhound Gang video below, watch and enjoy!

Tip Toe through the Tulips

Tip Toe through the Tulips

Today Oscar and I went for a run/walk in the park.  Spring is in the air in Tulsa!  All the trees and flowers are in full bloom, which made a scenic run today.  For a little dog Oscar sure has stamina, he keeps up with me just fine.  Although at the end of the run his tongue is hanging out of his mouth pretty far.  Don’t worry today’s post isn’t about my dog, it’s about health.

So I ran most of a mile, which I know isn’t really worth bragging about but I haven’t been running since I was in middle school.  When I worked for Dicks Sporting Goods I actually invested in a good pair of running shoes and they are paying off. They are the Nike Lunar Glide shoes and trust me if you like to run or you stand on your feet these shoes are wonderful, they are literally the lightest shoe I’ve ever worn.  I’ve really been trying to stay on schedule, do something active every day and not screw up on my eating plan.  I’m doing pretty good I just can’t seem to quit drinking sodas. I’m down to one a day and am working on none.  So far it seems to be paying off my jeans are a little looser and am pretty sure that I’ve lost a few pounds but I won’t know anything for sure until tomorrow because it’s weigh day. GULP!!!

The other goal this year was just improve our over-all health, so I’ve switched to using organic cleaning products.  I am an avid ready of Kandee Johnson’s blogs, she suggests in one of her entries Mrs. Meyer’s dish detergent and she was not wrong! It smells so good and works just as well as Dawn! I also use Method’s all-purpose cleaner in Pink Grapefruit, right now my whole house smells yummy and I only used it in the kitchen! It’s kind of nice to see a cleaning product that doesn’t come with a bunch of warnings that say do not ingest, if consumed please contact poison control! These are natural products that work just as well as the more abrasive alternatives.

Hugs and Happy Spring Cleaning-

Oscar the Super Dog!

Oscar Hebrew National

As some of you know I work with dogs at what is basically a glorified kennel.  We play with the dogs, feed them, water them, and give them their medicine- should they be on any!  What’s cool about this is I may take my dog if we aren’t completely booked up and we are right now because it’s Spring Break and everyone is on vacation except me right now… sad! But I really enjoy working with dogs; they are fun and so entertaining to watch!

With that said let me get to the real meat of this blog- my dog.  His name is Oscar (we didn’t name him or trust me he would have something more original for a weiney dog) Oscar Hebrew National is his technical title.  Although we call him everything from Buddy to Chewey and more. It’s a wonder that he even knows what his name is with the amount of nicknames thrown this little dogs way.  And yes I know that I have talked about my dog on this blog before, I also am fully aware that I am more than a little bit obsessed with him but I don’t care about that!

We adopted Oscar from our local SPCA Unit; he was thrown over the fence there in the middle of the night.  I can’t understand why because after working with dogs as much as I do trust me there are some real terrrors out there and Oscar isn’t one.  Oh he’s a Dachshund through and through.  He’s stubborn and obnoxious when the door bell has rung.  He gets snippy when pushed to far… basically he’s Daniel and I!  Well all expect for ringing the door bell, I don’t mind company- Dan on the other hand; he’ll bite ya if you ring that thing.

Oscar is always happy when we come home, he’s his happiest when we are all home together as a little family, he is most content to snuggle in your lap with a blanket over him if you just want to watch some T.V. and should we need to travel he’s more than happy to take the passenger seat as the first mate on our voyage!  Oscar has traveled more than most people; he even goes with us when we go to Miami, FL to visit relatives!

Please remember when looking for a dog, they aren’t puppies forever- do your homework when getting a breed. We love Oscar and are so happy that whomever owned him before us took him to the SPCA so we could adopt him, it would be nice if no dog ever had to deal with being dumped and or abandoned.  If your wanting to add a loving loyal companion such as a dog to your family- please remember to browse your local animal shelters first I promise those dogs need good homes and they know that you rescued them!

This blog is dedicated to Oscar- We love you!!
This isn't my dog, he hates getting a bath I just thought it was cute!!

Moody Blues

Moody Blues

Today wasn’t the best day I’ve ever had. I just started a new job so right now my finances are pretty tight. I still haven’t made up my mind about school- and I made a pretty stupid mistake at my job. Even though I am new and I know everyone makes mistakes even when they aren’t brand new at a job… I still don’t like to make them.

With that being said I could take all of those things cry about them and be a baby, but I choose to try and be positive. I know that everyone goes through financial trouble and everyone screws up at work from time to time. Most people still don’t know at 35 what they want to be when they grow up so it’s probably okay that at 25 I’m almost sure of what I think I could do for a while.

We can control our emotions and we have the ability to take the bad and make it good. These are just my thoughts on these matters, my goal or resolution this year was to be more positive and I think that I am doing pretty well so far. I still have things to work on but I think that there is something to this positive thinking bit. Dan always says that most things in life are mind over matter- if you think it, it will happen. So why not think that you’re going to have a good day and good things will happen to you?

Hugs and Happy Thoughts,

Stephanie

Mouses and Houses

“Muffin Mouse’s New House”

I am one of those tenacious people that can’t let things go easily.  When I was a kid I had this book in a shape of a teapot about a mouse.  I have been looking for this book for years because my mom gave the book away.  Today I have finally found it, its title is Muffin Mouse’s New House- and yes my blog entry is really about a kids book you've probably never even heard of, but, damn two years of my time have been spent wondering what this book was and it’s been driving me crazy!

The synopsis of the book: a little mouse named Muffin needs to find a new house because hers broke and her friend which is a frog helps her find a new home.  They end up getting her a discarded teapot as a new home because Muffin’s favorite beverage is strawberry tea.

The End.

Now you know the things that make me crazy, its things like trying to remember titles of long lost children’s books and where have I seen that actor wasn't in that one movie? Then for the next two months I will be wondering just where in the hell have I've seen that actor. Trust me you don't want in this mind of mine...
I think I will buy this book sometime in the future and then read it to my kids should they ever seem interested in the story!

So if you remember your books from childhood pass them on or better yet you yourself should thumb threw them from time to time- trust me it will bring you back to a time when reading was actually fun and exciting because T.V. hadn’t ruined your imagination yet!

Walk It Off

Walk It Off… Literally

So Dan, myself, my brother and a very close friend of ours are going to Florida in July. We are very excited to be going back to a place we lived for a couple years! We love South Florida and all it has to offer, so showing it off to friends and family is something we are looking forward to. The downside is, Dan and I have also been gaining weight like crazy; blame it on stressful events happening, laziness, and no money to stay on a healthy meal plan. We tend to grab food when we can and it’s taken its toll.

I hate myself for letting myself gain weight… even though most people tell me you aren’t fat I feel that I am! But I digress, we’ve started taking baby steps to getting back in shape today we went on a walk through our neighborhood, I forgot how much I love looking at nature. All the flowers are starting to bloom out and watching the little animals gave me something to look at instead of wondering how many calories I’d burned.

I’m hoping to lose two to three dress sizes by the time the Florida trip rolls around, which is pretty much my ideal weight anyways- because who wants to feel fat on the beach?! Not me! Plus working at the Dog Day camp I feel I am burning some serious calories there those dogs wear me out, by the time I get home all I want to do is take a shower and go to sleep!

So wish us luck- we’re going to need it!! Maybe I will post some pictures of our progress along the way!!

For The Love of Dogs

For The Love of Dogs

As I have been working for a doggy dare care and lodging camp center for pooches for the past week, I thought this would make a good entry.  I’ve loved dogs my entire life, when I was four my mom got remarried and we got a Golden Retriever named Rex. I don’t know why we decided to get him, maybe it was to make the transition easier for me? But I digress, my love for dogs really started with that dog. I know that Goldie’s are known for their sweet temperament and patience with kids and this dog was no exception.  He used to let me try and ride him, dress him up, and I am sure there are a few things that I have forgotten. He was my best friend, I could and would talk to him about any problems I may have been having at the time. Coming as an only child from a divorced home I told him secrets that no one else would understand. He died when I was seventeen the whole family mourned for that dog and I don’t think that anyone gets over losing a dog like that.

Skip ahead a few years and now I am grown up with a dog of my own. He’s name is Oscar Hebrew National, Dan and I adopted him from the Tulsa SPCA, someone threw him over the fence there in the middle of the night. We don’t know much about his background because of the circumstances he was found, but I can tell you he is the best dog and whom ever gave him up was a fool. I don’t know if it’s because we’ve rescued him from the pound and he knows it, or what, but I have never had a bond like this with any animal… not even Rex.  This is Danny’s and mines furry little baby, we love playing with him and spoiling him rotten!

When we first got Osky four years ago, I was recovering from Anxiety Disorder and severe panic attacks- I rarely have  anxiety attacks now, but, when I do he knows that I am having a tough time and he doesn’t leave my side. Even today I had a migraine and had to come home and lay down this dog knew I wasn’t feeling good and he cuddled next to me to try and make me feel better.

Now that three hours have passed I’m feeling better and Osk is snoring on my foot, he occasionally looks back at me- as if to say, “Yeah, are you feeling better yet? You’ve been asleep for a while now and I need to go out for a walk.” So if you have a four legged best friend enjoy and cherish their company while they’re here, they really are Man’s Best Friend.

Things that bother me part duex

Things That Bother Me, Part Duex

1.  Phrases like: Just Saying or I’m over it… yeah well I’m over these sayings!!

2.  When you’re eating a burger and somehow you manage to eat ¾ of the top bun and you’ve left yourself with over ½ of the bottom bun. UGH! Then you have ketchup and other condiments running all over the place!

3.  Having to watch my boyfriend play video games. It’s boring, but thank God I have a laptop to keep me occupied!

4.  Why do they keep making phonebooks? Ring. Ring. Ring. Hello, it’s the 21st century on the phone; they have a message QUIT WASTING PAPER!!!

5.  People that wear pajamas outside, come on people they’re called pants most of us own them. Please use them like the rest of society I will even help you- you put those on one leg at a time then pull up the pant and zip! How simple bet you never guessed putting on an item of clothing could be so easy!!

6.  The fact that technology only advances for entertainment. Maybe if we stopped upgrading the Ipad or coming out with shit that we already have we could make some things that actually made life a little easier. Such as tires that never go flat or maybe eliminating tires all together and finally making those flying cars that were supposed to be here twelve years ago.

Watch this video and maybe it will brighten your day!!

Well now you know I am sure next week I will have a new list to help you out in your day to day life!

Hugs—

Steph

Just Between Us Girls

Just Between Us Girls

I put a picture of Elizabeth Taylor because let's face it that woman was the most beautiful woman ever, she also had the most gorgeous skin!!

I am an avid reader of Kandee Johnson blogs and her videos on YouTube. For those of you that don’t know who I am talking about let me fill you in, she is a makeup artist that provides tips of the trade and more on her blogs. She is so positive and I love reading her blogs, but I digress.

The other day I was watching her skin care routine she uses Burt’s Bees Citrus Facial Scrub- which is great stuff. It looks a little funky because it is solid you just wet your face and rub a fingertip amount on your face… but that’s not what I want to tell you about. Although that stuff is wonderful and I highly recommend it!

What I am sharing is this product that is called Alba Un-petroleum Jelly. This can be found at Whole Foods or probably any natural organic food store. I love this stuff and use it as a moisturizer… although it has many many uses. Today I had to use it because I have extremely baby sensitive skin and Tulsa, OK has crazy crazy wind. Needless to say I suffer a lot of wind chapped cheeks in the city. Not anymore though, now thanks to this stuff I didn’t have any chapped chubby cheeks! It also will remove your eye-make up and moisturize the sensitive skin around your eyes!
This is what the bottle looks like! It's the best stuff EVER!!

If you’re a mom and your baby has a diaper rash this stuff will help soothe it. It is completely organic so you don’t have to worry about putting nasty chemicals on baby’s sensitive skin! If you can find this stuff I recommend it to anyone! My skin feels AMAZZZING!!!!

First Day Jitters

First Day on the Job

Today I started my new job at Camp Bow Wow it’s a Doggy Day Camp and Lodging for dogs. It was so much fun. I got to play with the big dogs today and spent all day with playing with dogs. Who wouldn’t love that? Plus tomorrow I get to bring Oscar with me. Although this job isn’t for the faint of heart they dog get into little tussles but you use a water bottle and squirt them and it’s over.

As you can imagine the worst part is dumping the poo, I don’t mind scooping it but dumping it out at night is smelly! I can’t wait to take Oscar there with me so he doesn’t have to stay cooped up at home by his self!

Well wish me luck in the days to come with this job, I think I am going to enjoy it.
