Whale of a Tale Part Two
As I said yesterday Dan and I had big plans... driving out to Catoosa to see the Blue Whale. It's just a Rt. 66 easter egg. Whats funny is it's literally a big blue whale and we almost missed it because we were looking the wrong direction.
Before trampsing around on these grounds, I changed my shoes from sparkly Toms (or Bob's as it where) to blue whale rubber boots! Which was a good call because there were lots of bugs and a snake. Although I didn't see the snake myself a kid that had been fishing in the pond ran out of the brush area screaming, "Snake. That was the biggest snake I've ever seen." and I didn't need to confirm that there was indeed a large snake in those weeds. I just ran away.
Although I don't think the boots really went with jeans!! |
I was excited to see the Blue Whale of Oklahoma! It was built in 1970 and I would have loved to see it in it's hay-day. Can't you just picture kids sliding and swimming around the whale?
No swimming, yeah no kidding! I don't really think very many people would want to swim in that. The grounds weren't littered with trash or anything that, sadly I kind of expected, but, the water was really dirty looking and look at that sea-weed. Gross.
Look at that face. So cute!!! |
So yes this was just a little bit campy and weird but we loved it. We decided that a road trip on Rt. 66 is must add to your bucket list. I would love to see more of this weird stuff that attracted a nation once upon a time. That sadly has been left behind to become run down as we travel on interstate's that offer no heart or soul.
